Cisco Bug: CSCvv95277 - FPR2100 High disk usage in partition /opt/cisco/platform/logs due to growth of httpd log files

Last Modified

Oct 12, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Firepower 9300 Series

Known Affected Releases

2.3(1.84) 2.8(1.129)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Firepower Extensible Operating System (FXOS) on Firepower 2100 series running Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) application contains fault F0813 the following description:

"Disk usage for partition opt/cisco/platform/logs on fabric interconnect A exceeded 90%."

If the FTD application is managed by the Firepower Management Center (FMC), the FMC may show a platform alert with the same description.

The output of the 'df -kh /opt/cisco/platform/logs' in expert mode shows 90%+ of disk space usage under the Use% column.
FPR2100:/# df -kh /opt/cisco/platform/logs
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 938M 819M 72M 92% /opt/cisco/platform/logs <------used 819 Mbytes

The output of the "du -sb" for /opt/cisco/platform/logs in expert mode might show that the actual disk usage of the partition is \significantly lower:

FPR2100:/# du -sb /opt/cisco/platform/logs
58207789 /opt/cisco/platform/logs <---------only 50 Mbytes

The reason for the difference, in this case, is that some of the httpd daemon (Apache) log files might have been rotated and deleted from the disk, however, their file descriptors are still open in processes.

Conditions:
Firepower 2100 Series running FTD application version 6.2.3.x - 6.6.1
