Symptom:
MDS NXOS 8.4.2 and earlier version adding additinoal '\' character in rootDN if CN='<name \, xyz>

For example

ldap-server host 172.x.x.x rootDN "<font color="red">CN=cisco\, system</font>,OU=internal,OU=department,DC=sjsan,DC=cisco,DC=com"  password xxxx
</pre>
NXOS LDAP debug output:
<pre>
ldap_escape_special_characters: After escaping : <font color="red">CN=cisco\\\, system</font>,OU=internal,OU=department,DC=sjsan,DC=cisco,DC=com
</pre>

Conditions:
If rootDN include special character '\'. 
<pre>
ldap-server host 172.x.x.x rootDN "<font color="red">CN=cisco\, system</font>,OU=internal,OU=department,DC=sjsan,DC=cisco,DC=com"  password xxxxx
</pre>
