Cisco Bug: CSCvv01479 - Switch fails to program random mac addresses in hardware.

Last Modified

Sep 04, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

15.2(7)E

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Cat2960L switch might experience a situation where MAC address is learnt and inserted in the MAC address table and after roughly 5 seconds it is removed, in other words it ages out prematurely

Conditions:
This can be seen when there is an inconsistency between the Platform Dependent hash table where such a MAC address is already present (stale entry or a result of missed delete notification) and Platform Independent MAC address table where such a MAC address is not present.
Since the switch believes address exists in hardware already new learn notification is not sent and as a result, this new MAC address is not properly installed in hardware forwarding engine [ASIC]
