Cisco Bug: CSCvu66181 - Standby switch reload after removing port-channel interface

Last Modified

Sep 10, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

16.9.4

Description (partial)

Symptom:
On a stack of C3850 standby switch might reload after performing the following command:

'no interface port-channel XX'

Device should generate a system-report during the reload.

Conditions:
When deleting an interface (port-channel in this case) and when device-tracking feature is enabled on that interface (or the vlan where the interface is) then all entries from the device-tracking binding database which are related to that interface will be removed as well

This action is synced up with the standby and the corresponding entries will be removed from the database on standby as well.

When the number of entries in the binding table which need to be removed are large (for instance when the interface is trunk interface), and depending on overall condition on the switch, this may cause some race condition which could lead to accession already release resources and crush.

Similar condition could occur if device-tracking policy is deleted/unconfigured from an interface.
