Known Affected Releases

Description (partial)

Symptom:
When attempting to work with attributes, the following message will be seen.
"This name is already in use for an attribute or related column in the database. Provide another name. <attribute>"

The <attribute> in the message above will be the display name shown for at least two of the attributes in the system.

Conditions:
Occurs in ECE versions prior to 12.0 when a customer creates several custom attributes with different internal names. At a later time, the display name for two of these attributes is changed so that they are the same.

For example, if there are two attributes as follows.

Display Name | Internal Name
--------------------------------------------------
Product Name | product_name
Product Type | product_type

After these are created, someone mistakenly updates both attributes' display name to be "Product" and saves this. The new attributes will show as follows:

Display Name | Internal Name
--------------------------------------------------
Product | product_name
Product | product_type
