Cisco Bug: CSCvu35319 - ASA allowing invalid domain name entry while configuring split DNS

Last Modified

May 31, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

9.8(2)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Invalid domain names such as '.example' are not supported in the split-dns configuration under group-policy on an ASA and can yield unexpected results.

ASA allows configuring a domain name in split dns entry which can cause inconsistent behaviour.

Example:
split-dns value inside.abc.com cad.prod ric123.xyz.com cad.stage intranet123.abc.com .prod
split-tunnel-all-dns disable

So in the above example, '.prod' is not a supported configuration construct.
The feature may not work as required.

Conditions:
Running
ASA version 9.8.2, or others affected by CSCvu35319.
Tested with Any Connect version 4.6

and
configuring an un-supported domain name like, ".abc" in split-dns configuration.
