Cisco Bug: CSCvu16159 - 'zone' service crash when end devices send large number of ELS frames during zone commit

Last Modified

May 08, 2020

Products (1)

 • Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Switches

Known Affected Releases

8.1(1a)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
The 'zone' service crashes due to signal 6 during a zone 'commit' operation. The crash may be preceeded by a kernel log about internal MTS messages being dropped.

The following syslogs may be seen:

%KERN-1-SYSTEM_MSG: [22402371.899965] mts_timer ALL_DROP timeout(180 sec) msg_id(1986033725) opc(1236) node(0x601):sap(18) - kernel
%SYSMGR-2-SERVICE_CRASHED: Service "zone" (PID 5459) hasn't caught signal 6 (core will be saved).

Conditions:
This issue applies to all MDS platforms.

It is more likely to occur when a lot of end devices change status during a commit and the commit takes several minutes. An example of this is when changing the zone default policy and there are a lot of unzoned devices in the default zone.
