Cisco Bug: CSCvu01295 - Prime Infrastructure confuses the device's serial numbers (Chassis SN + FEX SN)

Last Modified

May 08, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure

Known Affected Releases

3.7(0.0)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
When going to Prime Infrastructure's Inventory > Device Management > Network Devices page, and add the Serial Number column to the listing, since it is disabled by default. Prime Infrastructure displays the serial number of the FEX when a Nexus 5K device has a FEX configured, instead of picking the main chassis serial number.

When clicking the name of the device to show the Device Details page, it can be seen that Prime Infrastructure identifies both the chassis and the FEX serial numbers. Similar behavior will happen with multi-stack switches; Prime Infrastructure will randomly select the serial number of one stack member as the stack serial number.

Conditions:
Prime Infrastructure version:
Prime Infrastructure 3.7

Device:
Nexus 5596 Chassis (N5K-C5596UP)
Module:
N2K-C2232PP-10GE

The device's inventory is completely collected by Prime Infrastructure.
