Cisco Bug: CSCvt75255 - MESH APs require ICMP reachability to the GW to join WLC

Last Modified

Jun 08, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Aironet 1850 Series Access Points

Known Affected Releases

8.10(112.0) 8.10(121.0)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
As from 8.10, a new gateway reacheability check was introduced for MESH mode APs.

Now the MESH APs will send periodic ICMP echo requests (ping) to the default gateway to check for connectivity.
If you have traffic filtering between APs and default gateway(like ACLs) you will need to allow ICMP between AP and default gateway.

Customers that have ACLs not allowing ICMP will end up facing issues like MAPs not joining WLC after an upgrade...

Conditions:
AireOS 8.10.x and MESH APs.
