Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CallManager)

Known Affected Releases

11.5(1.18900.4)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Impact to Jabber Running in Background Mode
iOS will terminate Jabber if its running in background mode.

For example, if your organization uses Jabber connected with Unified CM to deliver calls, it will not be able to receive calls when it runs in background mode.

Or, if your organization uses Jabber connected with IM&P to deliver messages, it then it wont be able to receive messages and presence statuses when it runs in background mode.

Impact to Jabber and Webex Teams
The following issues will occur on Jabber or Webex Teams clients that run on devices with iOS 13 SDK when registered with Cisco Unified Communications Manager or in conjunction with Cisco Unified Communications IM & Presence Service.

For calling, Apple mandates that all VoIP push notifications invoke CallKit immediately. iOS 13 will terminate any client that fails to invoke CallKit and will stop delivering push notifications altogether if the issue persists.
Caller IDWhen the push notification is received, CallKit is invoked. If the client does not know the caller ID, the ID displays as Unknown caller. After registering back to Unified CM, CallKit updates the caller ID. The amount of time depends on the network connection.
For messaging, Apple mandates that all non-VoIP push notifications use a separate message channel. If non-VoIP services continue to use VoIP channels for push notifications, iOS will terminate the client andiOS 13 will stop delivering push notifications if the issue persists.

Conditions:
Jabber or Webex teams clients on iOS13
