Cisco Bug: CSCvs08667 - HX All-NVME cluster should fail earlier during deployment stage of install/expand

Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series

Known Affected Releases

4.0(1b)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
All NVME cluster fails to install or expand due to:
Installing Software Packages on Storage Controller VM
failed in Task: 'Configuring Controller VM System Disk' with Error: 'Failed to configure System Device
Reason: Could not find an SSD of minimum size 90115 MB for System Device'

Conditions:
Drives are inserted into the incorrect slots. Most commonly seen scenario is shown below:
Slot 1 (reserved for caching drives) contained drive: UCS-NVMEXPB-I375
Slot 2 (reserved for housekeeping/logging) contained drive: UCS-NVMEHW-I1000
Slot 3-7 (reserved for persistent/capacity) contained drive: UCS-NVMEHW-I1000
Slot 8 (reserved for persistent/capacity) contained drive: UCS-NVME2H-I1000

Looking at the documentation it appears that the "NVMEHW" drives are reserved for the capacity slots and "NVME2H" drives are reserved for system/log drive slots.
