Cisco Bug: CSCvs01963 - Change SNMP retries and SNMP timeout hardcoded default values

Last Modified

May 20, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Broadband Access Center for Telco and Wireless

Known Affected Releases

6.1(3.0)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
As per current design, the RDU built-in disruption extension uses the following defaults for SNMPv3 GET and SNMPv3 SET operations:

GET operation
SNMPv3 Retries = 0
SNMPv3 Timeout = 5000ms

SET operation
SNMPv3 Retries = 5
SNMPv3 Timeout = 100ms

This default timeout+retry combination can lead to extremely long batch times under network failures or when interacting with slow or misbehaving devices which will increase max batch times and waiting batches.

After detailed analysis of the performance of success & failure timings it was found that both SNMPv3 GET and SNMPv3 SET operations' defaults can be changed to the following values:

SNMPv3 Retries = 1
SNMPv3 Timeout =1000ms

Conditions:
When device reset (SET operation) is performed.
