Description (partial)

Symptom:
A rapid memory leak is observed in the SMD process on a Catalyst 3850 switch. The process is observed to grow in memory utilization over time:

If left unchecked, the SMD process will eventually crash and cause a reload of the active switch in the stack.

Conditions:
Leak is observed on the active switch of Catalyst 3850 stacks. It is unknown if a standalone switch can be affected. This may also affect Cat3650 / Cat9300 switches.

This has been observed on 16.3.5b.

802.1x port-based authentication is believed to be a requirement to see this issue. The exact conditions / triggers necessary to see the leak are not known at this time.
