Cisco Bug: CSCvi74595 - Enhancement request to make port-monitor alert syslog messages configurable

Last Modified

Jul 31, 2018

Products (1)

  • Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Switches

Known Affected Releases

6.2(15) 7.3(0)D1(1) 7.3(0)DY(1) 7.3(1)D1(1) 7.3(1)DY(1) 8.1(1)

Description (partial)

In 6.2(15) port-monitor now outputs syslog rising/falling messages in the logging log in addition to generating SNMP alerts:

show logging log
%PMON-SLOT1-3-RISING_THRESHOLD_REACHED: TX Credit Not Available has reached the rising threshold (port=fc1/2 [0x1001000], value=10) .
%PMON-SLOT1-5-FALLING_THRESHOLD_REACHED: TX Credit Not Available has reached the falling threshold (port=fc1/2 [0x1001000], value=0) .

If there are a lot of port-monitor alerts these messages can fill up the logging log and cause important messages to be lost. This behavior should be made configurable in port-monitor so that SNMP alerts will still be generated but not also logged in the logging log.

All using NX-OS 6.2(15) or later, any version of 7.3 and and version of 8.x
