Cisco Bug: CSCvh70642 - Apple iOS 11 device fails to gracefully rejoin 802.1X/EAP SSID in MDM profile after deauth RC 15

Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco 5500 Series Wireless Controllers

Known Affected Releases

8.2(166.0) 8.3(133.0) 8.5(110.0)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
If an Apple iOS 11 device is deauthenticated from the WLC / AP with a deauth reason code of 15, it has been observed that sometimes the iOS devices will not gracefully reconnect to the WLAN thereafter.

Instead, they will prompt the end user to re-enter their credentials, even if they have been added to an existing 802.1X/EAP profile provisioned on the iOS device in question. This can be problematic if the client device is not being actively used (i.e. iPhone in a end user's pocket, etc.) or if the credentials are tightly controlled via the MDM profile and the actual end user at that time does not know them.

Conditions:
Apple iOS 11 devices being deauthenticated with a deauth reason code of 15 on a 802.1X/EAP secured WLAN.
