Cisco Bug: CSCvh58391 - XCP router cores due to XMPP traffic related to temporary presence updates

Last Modified

Products (2)

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM & Presence Service
  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence Service Version 11.5

Known Affected Releases

11.5(1)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
XCP router cores while processing huge number of temp-presence stanzas.

Conditions:
Crash happens under following, special conditions:

1) Affected user has large number of contacts (including AD group members) in its roster (~1000 or more)
2) Affected user has large number of active temporary presence subscriptions from other users (~1000 or more)

When both conditions above are true, each log-in attempt of affected user will trigger creation of huge number of temporary presence update stanzas ({{<message type='headline'>}}), which may or may not eventually cause XCP Router service to run out of memory and crash. Exact conditions under which XCP Router will crash under mentioned load depend on previous memory consumption history of XCP Router service, and the way how memory is internally distributed among XCP Router service threads (which is purely random).
