Cisco Bug: CSCvh57260 - [Doc] XR Flex-CLI (apply-group config): Avoid using single-line configuration

Last Modified

Sep 16, 2019

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers

Known Affected Releases

6.2.25.BASE

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Currently if single-line configuration style is used with Flex-CLI, there is a chance that the command inheritance from the Flex-CLI group does not work properly when single-line configuration style is used.

Example of single-line configuration:

(config)#router isis CORE interface Ten0/4/0/0 address-family ipv4 unicast metric 123

The recommendation is to use multi-command configuration style, entering via each configuration mode separately. Example:

RP/0/0/CPU0:ios(config)# router isis CORE
RP/0/0/CPU0:ios(config-isis)#interface Te0/4/0/0
RP/0/0/CPU0:ios(config-isis-if)#address-family ipv4 unicast
RP/0/0/CPU0:ios(config-isis-if-af)#metric 123

Conditions:
This is observed on XR platforms when Flex-CLI (group configuration) is used. When an object (like an interface) is configured via single-line configuration style and added to the routing process in which a group is applied (via apply-group command), the interface may not fully inherit the properties defined in the group but instead it can partially inherit or not inherit them at all.
