Description (partial)

Symptom:
A Cisco Nexus 3548 router that is an intermediate router in a PIM sparse-mode network may send data packets toward the resource provider (RP) including when the RP is not part of the SPT.

Conditions:
This issue occurs when the LHR has switched from the RPT to the SPT. The intermediate router is not part of the SPT. Periodically, the LHR sends a *,G join to the intermediate router that is connected to the PIM RP. The intermediate router then sends a *,G join to the RP, but does not include the source in the prune-list. This causes the RP to send an S,G join toward the source. Data packets arrive on the RP on the SPT when they should not. The S,G is pruned from the RP and then the process repeats again a few minutes later.
