Description (partial)

Symptom:
After the DPA is crashed, the xr console is flooding with the following msg:
writev failed, error: Broken pipe
writev sent_bytes:-1 not equal to num_bytes:200
writev failed, error: Broken pipe
writev sent_bytes:-1 not equal to num_bytes:200
writev failed, error: Broken pipe
writev sent_bytes:-1 not equal to num_bytes:200
