In XR4.3 EIGRP cost metric style default configuration was changed from 32bit to 64bit. As a result, when a router is upgraded from pre-XR4.3 to XR4.3 or post-XR4.3, its EIGRP metric behavior will change from 32 bit to 64 bit unless explicitly configured in every VRF. To make the router to use the same metric style (32bit) as that of pre-upgrade, the above default-config change presents two problems: 1. Need manual change of per-VRF configuration for existing VRFs. 2. automatic tool based provisioning systems need to be updated with the new CLI when a new customer/site is provisioned. Both are operationally expensive in production network with high number of routers/VRFs. Having the upgraded router run with 64bit metric is not an option (refer: CSCul25627). Symptom:EIGRP metric style changed from 32 bit to 64 bit without any explicit config, after upgrading code from 4.1.2 to 4.3.31. Conditions:Enabling of EIGRP routing on a router.
