Cisco Bug: CSCur26561 - EARL 8 enchancement - image verification for FEX microcode

Last Modified

Jun 13, 2018

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

15.1(2)SY3

Description (partial)

Symptom:
This is an enhancement request to incorporate a method of verifying the FEX code within the main 6500/6880 image.

As such, presently, we can only verify the main 6500/6880 - we compute the hash over that and verify that with the embedded hash.

However, there are situations where ONLY the FEX microcode may get corrupted (I recently encountered this issue due to which the 6880 booted up but the 6800-IA image did not pass image verification causing it to go into a boot loop).

There is no way to find out if the FEX microcode remained unmodified and will pass image verification. This should be an important verification step prior to doing an upgrade that we should provide customers with.
