Cisco Bug: CSCur26410 - Error message needed in CIMC and UCSM when HDDBP has issues

Last Modified

Feb 14, 2018

Products (1)

  • Cisco Unified Computing System

Known Affected Releases

2.2(3a)C

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Primary Symptom: One or more hard drives may or may not power on and may not be visible to the host or the BMC/UCSM.

Other possible Secondary Symptoms: The server front-panel Health Status LED and Fan Status LED will be Amber with no Fault Entries visible from the WebUI/CLI. Also, no SELs will clearly indicate the issue. CIMC logs could be flooded with FPGA transaction failures. All fans have the potential to spin up to 100% duty cycle; this is a HW-safeguard if no PWM signal is given to the fans. Low-level FW upgrades could fail. One or more fan presences/speeds may not be reported accurately to the BMC.

Conditions:
The hard drive back-plane (HDD BP) ribbon-cable from/to the motherboard is loose/skewed or otherwise not inserted correctly or at all.
