Cisco Bug: CSCur20115 - Nexus 3500: ARP destined to peer's phy mac is dropped in non-vpc vlan

Last Modified

Feb 28, 2017

Products (2)

  • Cisco Nexus 3000 Series Switches
  • Cisco Nexus 3548 Switch

Known Affected Releases

6.0(2)A4(1)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
In the Nexus 3500 vPC setup, the switch drops ARP (reply) packets destined to the peer's physical MAC address.

Example:
Router1----vlan99----N3548A=======N3548B
Router1 has IP address 10.10.10.1/24
N3548A has IP address 10.10.10.2/24 in vlan 99
N3548B has IP address 10.10.10.3/24 in vlan 99
N3548A and N3548B has peer-link, peer-keepalive and a port-channel to carry non-vpc vlans between them.
Ping from N3548B to 10.10.10.1 fails, as ARP is INCOMPLETE.

Conditions:
This issue occurs when Nexus 3500 is running one of the affected releases
AND
The vPC peer-gateway is enabled

It is also seen when "peer-gateway exclude-Vlan <x>" is configured. In other words, the issue happens for non-vPC VLAN only.
