Description (partial)

A router running crypto features may unexpectedly reload.

On an IOS device, this will be recorded as a bus error and produce a crashinfo file. The following error may be displayed:

%ALIGN-1-FATAL: Illegal access to a low address

On an IOS-XE device this will be recorded as a critical software exception in the IOSd process, and the device will produce a crashinfo file and core file. If the device has multiple RP modules, a switchover will occur.

Router must have crypto features enabled. The root of the issue is a timing problem in IOS crypto internals: if the router receives a new connection request while simultaneously closing / cleaning up an old request, a timing condition could arise that causes a bad memory access and crash. This issue will happen while doing shut and no shut of the tunnel interface.
