Description (partial)

In a deployment scenario where _cisco-uds SRV record is used to discover services, if a Jabber user assigned to cluster B is sent to cluster A via the SRV record and the CUCM clusters are not properly configured to handle this UDS handoff process, login will fail because that user is not homed on cluster A.

Jabber PRT will show something similar to:

2014-08-15 15:54:00,644 WARN  [0x00001a88] [encies\ucm9-config\src\CacheData.cpp(57)] [csf.config] [ucm90::CacheData::isUdsCacheAvailable] - The UCM object is invalid.

2014-08-15 15:54:00,644 WARN [0x00001a88] [ies\ucm9-config\src\UdsProvider.cpp(174)] [csf.config] [ucm90::UdsProvider::getUdsInformation] - Unable to perform the UDS requests, an empty credentials object has been passed in.

2014-08-15 15:54:00,644 DEBUG [0x00001a88] [9-config\src\UcmConfigQueryImpl.cpp(278)] [csf.config] [ucm90::UcmConfigQueryImpl::fetchXmlFileSet] - Returning: INVALID_CREDENTIALS_ERROR

In it says:

"In an environment with multiple Cisco Unified Communications Manager clusters, you must configure the Intercluster Lookup Service (ILS). ILS enables the client to find the user's home cluster and discover services."

ILS does not appear to be required for this feature to work. Documentation needs to be re-visited to determine if ILS is necessary. And if so, what specific features its required for. As it stands currently, ILS was not needed on a customer's system to get this functioning. They were simply lacking the UDS configuration on the CUCM which the following steps addressed:

  * Configured cluster id in Enterprise parameters
  * Configured cluster view for that cluster id
  *   Restarted UDS service
  *   Configured TFTP

UDS service and ILS
Does somebody know WHY is mentioned everywhere (CCO, networkers,etc) that UDS home cluster discovery requires ILS, WHEN UDS home cluster discovery DOES NOT requires ILS to be even operational. Thank Alex
