Last Modified

Nov 08, 2016

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

9.1(5) 9.2(1)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) configuration guide contains the following guideline for extending the data VLANs with inter-site clustering:

"For transparent mode, do not extend the data VLANs between switches at each site; a loop will occur. Data traffic must be routed between the two sites."

This documentation defect is filed to change this wording as such:

"For Spanned EtherChannel mode, do not extend the data VLANs which are directly connected to the ASA cluster between sites; a loop (transparent mode) or duplicate MAC and IP addresses (routed mode) will occur. Any extended data VLANs must be separated from the cluster by a router."

Conditions:
Using inter-site clustering where data VLANs are extended between different sites.
