Cisco Bug: CSCup19648 - IO Freeze seen on Colusa with 32PD RAID5 + 28PD RAID6 with Cached-IO

Last Modified

Sep 20, 2016

Products (1)

  • Cisco Unified Computing System

Known Affected Releases

2.0(1.16)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
When the Virtual drives are configured in Cached-IO mode, you may see occasional IO timeout

Conditions:
This is limited to Virtual RAID volumes created with "Cached-IO" mode to take full advantage of the RAID Cache and to reduce the drive speed overhead and keep using slow drives
When the virtual drives are created with Cached-IO mode set, and since the virtual drives are inconsistent, the background initialization happens to make the virtual drive consistent.
At this time, if the host I/Os are issued to load the drives & RAID cache at full load, the I/Os are blocked for some short periods of time which exceed the host OS expectations of the I/O time and they timeout
