Cisco Bug: CSCup05919 - 3850 - Power given, but State Machine Power Good wait timer timed out

Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

3.7(0)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Some old model of Cisco IP phones do not get PoE immediately after being plugged. This is because power controller state machine times out.

%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Power given, but State Machine Power Good wait timer timed out

Phones do come up eventually. This is reproducible with at least two Cisco 7970/7971 phones in my lab. I just bounce the port (shut-no shut)/PoE (power inline never/power inline auto) or move the PD to some other port to repro

Conditions:
has been seen with cisco 7970/7971 phones. Other models may see it too.

C3850-48P and Pre-Standard POE
Hello, Does this switch stack support older phones that do not hav POE 802.2af standard? I have a 7940G that will not power with the 3850 model, newer phones do work though. I have tried to provide static power but this doesn't help
