Cisco Bug: CSCun53478 - IOA Cluster config is failing

Last Modified

Feb 19, 2018

Products (1)

  • Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Switches

Known Affected Releases

5.2(6a)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
On a Cisco MDS switch with IOA configured, Node may fail to come online if the <node name> is specified using the human readable switch name when the switch has not been configured to point to a valid DNS server.

MDS(config-ioa-cl)# node <node name> ip-address <ip address>
Cluster config fails: Node is offline (0x420f0036)

MDS(config-ioa-cl)# show ioa cluster <cluster name>
Unable to obtain cluster node object for show ioa cluster command

Conditions:
This problem occurs when the switch has no configuration for name-server access and a switch name is used in the cluster node definition. Since the switch name is not resolvable the node will remain offline.
