Cisco Bug: CSCun36806 - Track 'unknown' types in Virus Types Report

Last Modified

Feb 26, 2019

Products (1)

  • Cisco Email Security Appliance

Known Affected Releases

7.6.2-HP-014

Description (partial)

Symptom:
The number of viruses listed in the Virus Types report may not always be consistent with other reports such as the Executive Summary report.

This is an enhancement request to add an 'unknown' category in the virus types report which would include any message considered viral in other reports but which did not have a specific virus name associated with the verdict.

Conditions:
Currently, in order to be listed in the Virus Types report, a message must have a specific virus name reported by the Anti-Virus engine.

There are several reasons why a message may be categorized as viral in other reports, but may not appear in the Virus Types report. Below are some examples:

- Messages that receive an 'Unscannable' verdict, when the action applied for this verdict is -not- 'Deliver'

- Messages that receive an 'Encrypted' verdict, when the action applied for this verdict is -not- 'Deliver'.

- Messages that receive a 'Virus Positive' verdict by the Anti-Virus engine, but do not have a specific virus name reported by the Anti-Virus engine.
