Cisco Bug: CSCun36357 - CSM: Cannot Login to Client App After Upgrading to 4.5+

Last Modified

Nov 27, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco Security Manager

Known Affected Releases

4.5(0) 4.5(0)SP0(1) 4.5(0)SP0(2) 4.5(0)SP0(3)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Attempts to login to the CSM (Cisco Security Manager) client application fail with error:

 "Error - Login Failed
The client cannot connect to the Authentication Service."

The CSM client application log (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Cisco Security Manager Client\logs\ ) contains one (1) or more entries such as:

"SEVERE: Unable to connect to AuthServlet:
  javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: peer not authenticated"

Conditions:
CSM client application's "Server Name" field value is set to an alias or other name that is NOT the actual server hostname. However, this alias is resolvable (either via DNS or via an [existing] entry in the MS Windows' hosts file) to the correct (actual) IP address in-use. Finally, this alias was in-use (successfully) with a previous version of CSM, but no longer works after upgrading to CSM version 4.5 or later.
