Cisco Bug: CSCun13347 - SSC-5 sensorApp self restart failure

Last Modified

Jul 21, 2016

Products (1)

  • Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensors

Known Affected Releases

6.2(5)E

Description (partial)

Symptom:
During a signature update on the SSC-5 platform, sensorApp attempts to restart itself but fails. The evidence is in the main.log logs:

05Aug2009 20:29:10.664 1.163 sensorApp[19277] sensorApp/W SensorApp has requested a restart to finish a signature update.
. . .
05Aug2009 20:30:40.873 0.000 sensorApp[3999] Syslog/F errSystemError threadStart catchunknown exception!

NOTE: Original sensorApp (process ID 19277) requests a restart and then later the new (restarted) sensorApp (process ID 3999) fails with an unknown exception.

Conditions:
The sensorApp self restart only occurs if sensorApp detects that it is close to being out of memory. This logic is specific to the SSC-5 platform due to its low memory capacity.
