Description (partial)

Symptom:
Report showing
NETWORK ADDRESS CHANGED and duplicate serial numbers.

Conditions:
The SNs are for two items; not four items (transceivers). The two items are transceiver cables. Each cable has two ends that can be plugged into two ports/interfaces. Each cable has one SN. When a transceiver cable is used to connected two devices, both devices will report the same SN for the cable because it only has one SN. I have advised the IR team and made recommendations (which must not have been taken seriously) in the past about these scenarios. From an inventory reporting perspective, only two items should be reported but from a network management or inventory network element to item relationship perspective, there are four connections (with all ends connected) and therefore, both cables should be shown to have a relationship to two devices (as the devices are correctly reporting). There should be no flip-flopping of network element to item association or messages indicating a change in network address.

The results that you are seeing in the report should be considered an SNTC/IR reporting bug.
