Cisco Bug: CSCum10422 - Reset-reason/time show "Unknown"/"no time" when active clock fails

Last Modified

Mar 08, 2018

Products (1)

  • Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Switches

Known Affected Releases

5.2(8b)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Currently on the MDS 9509 and 9513 platforms, if the active clock fails the switch will reload and use the standby clock. However, the reset-reason and time show the following:

`show system reset-reason`
----- reset reason for Supervisor-module 7 (from Supervisor in slot 7) ---
1) No time
    Reason: Unknown
    Service:
    Version: 5.2(8b)

This is an enhancement request to include a more meaningful reset-reason.

Also, the clock exception is listed as "Minor error". It should also reflect the serious nature of this failure when it occurs on the active clock.

Conditions:
Occurs when an active clock fails on an MDS 9500.
