Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco Webex Meetings

Known Affected Releases

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Joining a WebEx Meeting Center always causes Mac OS X to switch from the Integrated GPU to the Discrete GPU on systems with dual GPU, which causes greater power consumption / battery drain on portables.

This change in active GPU from the Integrated to Discrete GPU can be observed in Activity Monitor on the Energy tab, which shows WebEx as "Yes" for Requires High Perf GPU.

Conditions:
Using WebEx Meeting Center on a dual GPU Macintosh, such as a Retina MacBook Pro (MacBookPro10,1)

Observed on WBS28 as well as WBS30

Is there any way to require WebEx to not use discrete graphics card in MacBook Pro? Currently, it always uses discrete graphics, which means that on battery, it uses 20-25% of battery per hour. That’s a very high energy use for an app that really should be much more efficient.
