Description (partial)

When SMTP route has a hostname that is unable to be resolved due to DNS issues, it will break this SMTP route and no emails will use even the preferred or lower priority SMTP route IP's defined.

You must have SMTP routes to a domain where the IP is set as the preferred SMTP route on lower priority, and a hostname of a mail server as the second preference (high priority) and a DNS issue occurs and you cannot reach DNS servers
