Last Modified

Apr 18, 2019

Products (1)

  • Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers

Known Affected Releases

15.4(1)S 15.4(3)S 15.5(1)S

Description (partial)

Symptom:
When the hw-module session command is issued to session into a module from a terminal and after the session has been started, closing the terminal without exiting from the session, will cause the module session to be locked forever during that router uptime.

Conditions:
Condition can be reproduced by the following steps:

1. Log into the router from 2 terminal windows - one from CONSOLE port and another from AUX port
2. issue hw-module session command from the AUX terminal to a module and wait for the module prompt to display
3. After module prompt is seen, close the AUX terminal without exiting from the module prompt.
4. Now issue the same hw-module session command from the CONSOLE terminal to the same module that was sessioned into previously and this will never succeed.
Only way to recover from this situation is to reload the router.
