Description (partial)

Help page pointing to the certificates then doing TLS auth but only mentions they must be exchanged. That didn't help since in our case the certificates were exchanged using the bulk cert export&merge&import in OS-Admin. The CA certificates are not included in that export/import.

ILS sync error between clusters which seemed to be due to root and intermediate CA certificates missing on one of the clusters.
