Cisco Bug: CSCuj54754 - IOS-XR Pre-Routed Ping

Last Modified

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers

Known Affected Releases

4.3.4.ADMIN 4.3.4.BASE 4.3.4.FWDG 4.3.4.ROUT 4.3.4.TOOLS

Description (partial)

When a forwarding plane error occurs that does not take down the control plane, packets are still directed toward the asr 9k and are then discarded due to a forwarding plane issue. There is no way to alarm on this from within the asr 9k and external systems must be relied upon to detect a failure of the data plane across the asr 9k (e.g. when the FIB manager crashes on a line card but all routing adjacencies remain stable)

When a process failure occurs on a line card which creates a black hole for all traffic traversing the affected line card, nothing within XR can signal to the operator that this data plane black hole has occurred. Log messages are helpful but inconclusive re: the black holing of traffic across the card.
