Cisco Bug: CSCuj23199 - ENH: DNS Client Should Resolve Both IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses

Last Modified

Jun 09, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

9.1(2)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
Once any interface of an Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) or ASA Services Module is configured with an IPv6 address, the local Domain Name System (DNS) resolver will always prefer AAAA queries and responses. As the result, local commands which use Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) may fail when the resolved IPv6 destination is not reachable from the ASA. This is an enhancement request to make the resolution process and the consumer features more intelligent in selecting IPv4 or IPv6 address to use.

Conditions:
Any interface is configured with an IPv6 address, but IPv4 resolution is desired.
