Cisco Bug: CSCuj10559 - ASA 5505: License Host limit counts non-existent hosts

Last Modified

Apr 16, 2020

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

8.4(7)

Description (partial)

Symptom:
The ASA 5505 Inside Host license limit incorrectly counts old hosts entries against the license, potentially blocking new connections to be initiated by legitimate inside hosts. The following syslog may be shown:

Conditions:
This is only seen when 'threat-detection statistics' is present in the config. The expired and old local-hosts that are counted against the license limit are part of the threat-detection data structures. If you do not have 'threat-detection statistics' enabled, you will not see the problem. Also, this limit is only enforced if the platform is an ASA 5505 and the activation key entitles you to only 10 or 50 hosts.
