Cisco Bug: CSCub17108 - 'show command | ?' displays - ERROR: % Ambiguous command: "sh command"

Last Modified

Jan 09, 2017

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

8.1(1.1) 8.2 8.3 8.4

Description (partial)

Symptom:

when we try to filter the show output using '|' we get might get an error

example:

sh blocks | ?
ERROR: % Ambiguous command: "sh blocks "

I get the above error, however if I enter the right command be it file or include or something else it takes it and does what it is expected to do

It should show something like this

asa5520-2# sh blocks | ?

begin Begin with the line that matches
  exclude Exclude lines that match
  grep Include/exclude lines that match
  include Include lines that match

This is a COSMETIC error and as mentioned above it will still take the command and display what it is supposed to display

This is the same for all the show commands

Conditions:

asa must be running any release 8.1.1.1 and above code and it should be smp platform (5580/85)
when user tries to filter out show output using '|'
