Cisco Bug: CSCub15275 - 'vms' process crashes on the standby VSM

Last Modified

May 16, 2018

Products (2)

  • Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch for VMware vSphere
  • Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch

Known Affected Releases

4.2(1)SV2(1.1)

Description (partial)

Symptom:

'vms' process crashes and generates a core file. This can be checked from 'show cores':

Nexus1000v# show cores
Module-num Instance-num Process-name PID Core-create-time
---------- ------------ ------------ --- ----------------
1 1 vms 3297 Dec 4 11:35

Conditions:

This happens on the standby VSM and not on the active VSM. The memory consumed by vms in the standby VSM grows over time. To check this,

Nexus1000v# attach module 2		-->> attach module <standby module>
Nexus1000v(standby)# show processes memory -->> and check for the memory consumed by vms

For example, two instances captured with a time gap of a day

Nexus1000v(standby)# show processes memory

PID MemAlloc MemLimit MemUsed StackBase/Ptr Process
----- -------- ---------- ---------- ----------------- ----------------
25767 16433152 248628300 139665408 bffffa60/bfffd8f0 vms

Nexus1000v(standby)# show processes memory

PID MemAlloc MemLimit MemUsed StackBase/Ptr Process
----- -------- ---------- ---------- ----------------- ----------------
25767 18833408 248628300 142065664 bffffa60/bfffd8f0 vms
