Cisco Bug: CSCtf25808 - ICMP error messages dropped in multi-context asymmetric routing mode
Nov 08, 2016
- Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls
Known Affected Releases
Symptom: ICMP error messages are dropped by firewall in multi-context mode in case of asymmetric routing even if ACL "permit icmp any any" is configured. The diagnostics is: %ASA-4-313005: No matching connection for ICMP error message: icmp src wan:172.16.1.2 dst lan:192.168.1.1 (type 3, code 13) on wan interface. Original IP payload: tcp src 192.168.1.1/51432 dst 192.0.2.1/23. Conditions: This happens if initial connection (for example, TCP) is created in one context "A", but ICMP error message arrives to another context "B" due to asymmetric routing. The context "A" has information about the initial connection, because asr-group is configured, but this information isn't used by "B" to forward ICMP unreachable to the context "A". Instead, the context "B" drops the ICMP packet.
