Cisco Bug: CSCtf00572 - VPN LB: AES encryption is not working with LB traffic

Last Modified

Nov 08, 2016

Products (1)

  • Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

Known Affected Releases

8.0(5) 8.2(2)

Description (partial)

Symptom:

AES encryption **is not working** for encrypting the load balancing traffic (i.e. the traffic between the ASAs for the purpose of load balancing)

Conditions:

ISAKMP / phase 1 negotiates just fine w/ AES/SHA, however, phase 2 fails unless we allow for 3DES. We cannot get the above to work when the only IPSec transform configured is AES/SHA. As soon as we add a transform for 3DES/SHA or 3DES/MD5 it works just fine.

We had AES/SHA as the only proposal that was available and it wasn't working. As soon as we put in 3DES/SHA or 3DES/MD5 it worked just fine. We've had to change our IPSec transform sets to:

10 AES/SHA
20 3DES/SHA
30 3DES/MD5
