Description (partial)

RDU server performance degrades, RDU log (with informational messages enabled) shows 20+ second gaps where no messages were emitted even though the server had batches to execute.
Or the RDU server runs out of Java heap memory and restarts.

Batches posted to the RDU server using the BAC client API include calls to the getMatchingFilenames, searchDevice, or searchNode API methods.
The calls to these methods pass a large value for the numberToReturn parameter.
The calls to searchDevice set ReturnParameters.ALL in the searchType parameter to request the search return details about matching devices.
The search matches a large number of records.
