Description (partial)

Intermittantly, setup will crash/disappear shortly after setup begins an upgrade.

This problem may be experienced when upgrading Cisco Unity. It was seen in 5.x and 7.x upgrades to Cisco Unity 8.0(3). However, it could happen on any upgrade to and from any supported version.

During an upgrade, install.exe loads the existing versions of the dlls in Commserver\components folder and unregisters them with COM by calling DllUnregister. After unregistering the dlls, install.exe unloads the existing dlls so that it can copy in the new version.

A defect in the CsConv dll would cause it to initialize the Javascript engine when loaded for the call to DllUnregister. A race condition existed in CsConv.dll which would cause an exception if the Javascript engine initialization had not proceeded far enough before the dll was unloaded by install.exe.

The flaw in CsConv.dll is harmless in the normal operation of Unity, since it is loaded once by AvCsMgr.exe, and remains loaded until AvCsMgr.exe is shut down.

In short, this is a timing issue that may or may not be seen.
