Last Modified

Known Affected Releases

4.0(13) 4.1(3) 4.1(5)

Description (partial)

Symptom:

There is no output on the serial console at all.

When checking the BIOS settings you will see that the serial console is disabled.
Conditions:

This sometimes happens after a WAE-674-K9 WAE-7326-K9 WAE-7341-K9 WAE-73271-K9 gets reloaded or arrives as new.
There are some scenarios that could cause the serial console to be disabled. Serial port getting disabled is a know issue with the vendor BIOS and this issue is seen on the WAE 674, WAE 7341, WAE 7371 platforms only.

Causes include and are not limited to:

1 interrupting the bootup in the BIOS 3 times consecutively. The BIOS will then load
'good defaults' which disable the serial port.

This BIOS will display the message "Three consecutive boot failures. Applying
  CMOS default settings"

2 if there is a too long delay in initialization of some hardware components (like the
RAID card) the BIOS will timeo out and produce an error, also going to 'safe defaults'

3 Somebody modifying the BIOS by mistake
