Cisco Bug: CSCtc13297 - ipv6 acl with icmp option doesn't take effect in output direction

Last Modified

Apr 23, 2010

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

12.2(52)SG 12.2SIN

Description (partial)

Symptom:

Output Ipv6 Acl with Ace to match on ICMP option is not working on cat4900

Conditions:

Without s/w workaround patch in the latest release, i.e. in existing old image, the problem happens for Acl with following conditions, note that all conditions must be met:

- Acl must be applied on output direction of the interface.
- Ipv6 Acl must contain Ace to match on ICMP option fields, i.e. ICMP Type or ICMP Code.

e.g. Following is an example of such non-functioning RACL:

IPv6 access list a2
permit icmp any any nd-ns sequence 10
deny ipv6 any any sequence 20

With s/w workaround patch in the latest release, above RACL will function properly. However there is still a corner case where even s/w workaround can not address, which is the following conditions, note that all conditions must be met:

- Acl must be applied on output direction of the interface.
- Ipv6 Acl must contain Ace to match on ICMP option fields, i.e. ICMP Type or ICMP Code.
- Ipv6 Acl must contain Ace which match on source Ipv6 address as well.

e.g. Following is an example of non-functioning RACL:

IPv6 access list a4
    permit icmp 2020::/96 any nd-ns sequence 10
deny ipv6 any any sequence 20
