Cisco Bug: CSCtc05449 - rstp BPDUs are not tunneled over eompls for dfc facing interface

Last Modified

Jan 27, 2017

Products (1)

  • Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series Switches

Known Affected Releases

12.2(32.8.11)SX318 12.2(33)SXI2 12.2(33)SXI3

Description (partial)

Symptom:
 CE1-------g1/1 PE1 g2/1------------------P---------------------PE2--------CE2
               <----------------------------eom--------------------------------->

In the above EoM setup, if PE1's core facing interface (i.e) g2/1 is a DFC
then PVST BPDUs from CE1 would not be tunneled over EoM to the other
end(CE2). This means that when the spanning tree mode configured on the
CEs are PVST or Rapid PVST(which uses dmac 0100.0ccc.cccd) both CEs
would claim that they are the root node. The port on CE1 connecting to PE1
would have 'P2P dispute' state in its corresponding 'show spanning vlan
 <vlan-num>' output.

 Conditions:
PE1 core facing card is a DFC & PVST configured on CEs. This issue is
seen from SXI2 and later releases. Issue not seen with SXH images.
